Trump Renominates Cameron Hamilton To Lead FEMA After 2025 Firing

President Trump nominated Cameron Hamilton to be administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Monday, May 11, 2026.[1]

FEMA currently lacks a permanent administrator and has cycled through three temporary leaders as it emerges from a 75-day Department of Homeland Security shutdown that ended April 30, 2026.[1]

Hamilton served as FEMA's acting leader from January to May 2025 and was fired on May 8, 2025 after testifying that abolishing the agency was not in the American public's best interest.[1]

A Trump-appointed council recommended sweeping FEMA and DHS reforms on Friday, May 8, 2026, and Hamilton would be expected to implement those changes if he is confirmed.[1]
