Miami Sergeants Sue Damon And Affleck Producers Over 'The Rip' Portrayal

Two Miami-Dade sergeants filed a federal lawsuit against producers of the 2026 film The Rip, saying the movie falsely portrays them as corrupt and seeking more than $75,000 in damages.[1]

The complaint names sergeants Jason Smith and Jonathan Santana and targets production companies Artists Equity and Falco Pictures, while Netflix is not named as a defendant.[1] The suit says The Rip, marketed as "inspired by true events," falsely shows narcotics officers stealing part of a $21.9 million cash seizure.[1]

In 2016 Miami-Dade narcotics officers seized about $22 million in suspected marijuana proceeds that had been hidden in orange buckets behind a false wall. The complaint says the film's depiction departs from that record and harms the officers' reputations.

The plaintiffs ask a federal court for damages and relief to address the alleged defamation and emotional distress.[1]
