Coon Rapids man charged for threats to Champlin police
A Coon Rapids man, Brendon Michael Daugherty, 39, has been charged in Hennepin County with making threats of violence against Champlin police and county dispatch, authorities say.
Prosecutors say the threats followed an April 1 Champlin traffic stop in which Daugherty told an officer he should kill himself. They say he left multiple voicemails to Hennepin County dispatch and to the officer's work phone between early April and April 25. FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul reported the allegations.
The episode traces back to the April 1 stop and to alleged messages left between early April and April 25, court papers say. Daugherty has a 2023 federal conviction for threatening a U.S. senator and served a one-year-and-a-day sentence. He was convicted in 2018 of terroristic threats tied to calls to a Maple Grove Pearle Vision, the complaint says. The complaint also alleges a past incident where Daugherty reached for a knife during contact with Coon Rapids police.
Daugherty is charged with threats of violence in Hennepin County and faces prosecution there, according to the charging documents. The report did not say whether an arraignment has been scheduled or whether Daugherty has an attorney listed.
