Minnesota gas averages hit $4 as spike begins

Minnesota's average price for regular gasoline has risen to $4.00 per gallon, pushing some Twin Cities stations above $4 and raising the prospect of higher consumer costs statewide.

A Fox 9 report shows some Twin Cities stations, including a Woodbury location, charging about $4.09 per gallon, while neighboring Wisconsin's average sits at $4.29. GasBuddy forecasts the national average could reach $4.50 next week and says Wisconsin may approach $4.79.

The rise marks the first time Minnesota's average has topped $4 since June 2022, when prices spiked during the early Russia-Ukraine war. Rising diesel costs are expected to lift shipping expenses, which in turn typically push up retail prices for food and other consumer goods.

If diesel and crude prices keep climbing, drivers and shoppers should expect continued price pressure at the pump and on store shelves in the coming days.
