USDA Recalls 3.4 Million Pounds of Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice Over Glass Risk

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has announced a recall of about 3.4 million pounds of frozen “not ready-to-eat” chicken fried rice produced by Ajinomoto Foods North America and sold at Trader Joe’s stores across the United States, as well as similar products exported to Canada, because they may contain pieces of glass. The affected 20‑ounce Trader Joe’s packages — containing stir‑fried rice, vegetables, chicken and eggs — were produced between September 8 and November 17, 2025. Ajinomoto alerted FSIS after four customers reported finding glass in the product; no injuries have been reported so far. Canadian‑market cartons labeled “Ajinomoto yakitori chicken with Japanese‑style fried rice” with best‑by dates from September 9 through November 12 are also included. FSIS is urging consumers not to eat the recalled items and to discard them, highlighting once again how quality‑control failures at major processors can quickly become a national food‑safety issue when products are distributed through high‑volume chains like Trader Joe’s.
