Judge Denies Bond for Ex‑NFL Linebacker Darron Lee in Tennessee Murder Case

A Hamilton County Criminal Court judge in Tennessee has ordered former NFL linebacker Darron Lee held without bond on charges of first‑degree murder and tampering with or fabricating evidence in the death of his girlfriend at their rental home in Ooltewah, a Chattanooga suburb. At Wednesday’s hearing, District Attorney Coty Wamp argued that Lee’s account that the woman fell in the shower was incompatible with the scene, and said the case appears eligible for the death penalty, though no final decision has been made on seeking capital punishment. A sheriff’s detective testified he saw blood on walls, floors, a staircase, and railing, and that an autopsy he attended indicated blunt‑force trauma homicide, with additional injuries including a stab wound, an apparent human bite mark, severe facial bruising and swelling, and evidence someone tried to clean blood with nearby supplies. Lee himself reportedly had facial injuries, lacerations on his hands, wounds on his chest, and blood inside his phone case. The former first‑round pick of the New York Jets, who later played for the Kansas City Chiefs, is next due in court next month as prosecutors continue to build a case that could become a capital prosecution under Tennessee law.
