HHS releases $3.6B in delayed LIHEAP funds

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has released approximately $3.6 billion in Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding to states and tribes after shutdown delays, according to NEADA. States reported receiving HHS award letters Friday, enabling distribution to households as winter begins, while a bipartisan House letter this week urged Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to release the funds by Nov. 30 amid high arrears and rising energy prices.
