Lake Street encampment talks collapse; judge’s TRO ruling now pending

Negotiations between Minneapolis and property owner Hamoudi Sabri collapsed over how long restrictions should last (the city sought up to 90 days; Sabri 30), leaving a Hennepin County judge to rule on the city’s request for a temporary restraining order in its public-nuisance suit. The encampment at E. Lake St. and 28th Ave. S.—cited for drugs, fires and unsanitary conditions and the scene of a shooting that injured seven—has been cleared; the judge ordered Sabri to keep the site clean while MPD maintains fencing and heightened patrols. The city says cleanup cost about $50,000 and is seeking reimbursement after roughly $15,000 in citations, with a ruling expected at any time.
