The plaque at the base of the Albert Pike statue in Washington, D.C., originally mounted by the Freemasons, describes Pike as an "author, poet, scholar, soldier, jurist, orator, philanthropist and philosopher."

Albert Pike was a Freemason and was pardoned by U.S. President Andrew Johnson.
